"Health Maintenance Program"
Cardiac Rehabilitation Phase III Program

Northern Maine Medical Center's (NMMC's) Cardiac Rehabilitation Phase III - "Health Maintenance Program" is conducted on an outpatient basis in a monitored environment with exercise specialists and nurses present at all sessions. The "Health Maintenance Program" is a division of Northern Maine Medical Center's Outpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation Program and is conducted at the NMMC Wellness Center (Fort Kent) and at the Acadia Family Health Center (AFHC) in Madawaska. Education about heart disease is considered to be a primary goal of maintenance. Classes are offered at Northern Maine Medical Center to include topics such as stress, risk management, medications and diet.

Admissions

Eligible candidates for the "Health Maintenance Program" include those who . . .

  • have stable angina or chest pain
  • have had coronary heart bypass surgery at least 60 days prior to joining the program
  • have had a heart attack at least 90 days prior to joining the program

Support Comes in Many Ways

The risk factors for heart disease are conditions and habits that tend to speed the development of artherosclerosis. Lack of exercise is a major risk factor for heart disease, but there are several risk factors for a heart attack that you can control.

They are as follows:

  • high blood pressure
  • high blood cholesterol
  • cigarette/tobacco smoke
  • physical inactivity
  • diabetes
  • negative responses to stress and certain drugs

"Scholarship Program"
Cardiac Rehabilitation Phase III Program

We, at Northern Maine Medical Center, realize how expensive health care can be. Having heart disease can be costly. If you think you may qualify, please ask for an application by contacting Northern Maine Medical Center's Cardiac Rehabilitation at (207) 834-3155, extension 3169; or write to:
