NMMC Education Department Attains New Cardiac Rehabilitation Nurse
Fort Kent – In an effort to maintain the highest level of patient service, Northern Maine Medical Center has recently hired a new Cardiac Rehabilitation Nurse and Community Educator. Wendy Sirois, R.N., B.S.N. is the newest member of the NMMC Education team, and will prove to be an important asset in assisting and educating patients, community members, and employees alike.
Sirois, a Madawaska resident, has been employed at NMMC for almost 8 years. Since 2002, Sirois has worked as a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Room Nurse, CNA, Phlebotomist, and Emergency Room Receptionist.
With the acceptance of her new positions she will hold many responsibilities ensuring the highest level of patient satisfaction. As a Cardiac Rehab Nurse, Sirois will be responsible for developing plans and programs for directing, performing, and assessing the day-to-day activities of adult outpatients in the Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Unit.
Required duties will include establishing appropriate exercise programs, physiological limits, and patient goals that meet medical and safety criteria. Sirois will also play a key role in the interviewing of new patients looking to participate in the Cardiac Rehab program. This will require reviewing medical history, and identifying if patient meets requirements.
A few other key responsibilities will include assessing and evaluating patient’s exercise capacity by monitoring heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, arrhythmias, and unusual signs and symptoms.
Part two of Sirois professional responsibilities will be her performance as a Community Educator for NMMC. The Community Education program will be utilized to assist the Director of Education in offering community education programs.
Areas of community interests will be identified, and Sirois will help coordinate a guest speaker and provide a community lecture. Education will be shared throughout the St. John Valley and Northern Aroostook County.
Along with her work responsibilities, Sirois has begun assisting the Edgar J. Paradis Cancer Fund with their fundraising, and community education efforts.
When asked what Sirois anticipates most about her new positions her response include, “ I love being able to help people, and knowing that I will continue to have the opportunity to benefit the community of the St. John Valley means so much to me! NMMC offers a caring, close-knit, family oriented service, and it is a great honor to work for such a wonderful organization.”
Sirois currently resides in Madawaska with her husband Vincent, and children Mark, 21, Lisa, 18, and Matt, 17. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her family, reading, and travelling. Sirois is also a member of Ladies of St. Anne in St. David.
