Henrys to Head Orthopedics
Martin Bernstein, CEO of Northern Maine Medical Center is pleased to announce the extended stay of locum tenens physician Dr. Paul Henrys, Orthopedic Surgeon. Dr. Henrys will remain on staff until the summer of 2011 upon the arrival of a permanent Orthopod. Mr. Bernstein remarks “the St. John Valley is very fortunate to have an orthopedic surgeon with the breadth, depth and years of experience that Dr. Henrys possesses. Further, his bedside manner makes him a perfect fit.”

Dr. Henrys comes to Northern Maine Medical Center with 43 years of experience as an orthopedic surgeon. He was educated at the University of Cartagena in Colombia, South America; completed an internship at Manchester Memorial Hospital in Manchester, Connecticut, and residencies in general surgery and orthopedic surgery at New York University and Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, respectively.

He is certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, licensed in Maine, Florida, Connecticut and Michigan. He also holds certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).

Dr. Henrys has held many professional offices during his career. Some of these accomplishments include consultant for the V.A. Hospital, University of Connecticut, chairman of Florida’s North Shore Medical Center’s orthopedic department as well as president of the medical staff, and credential committee designations. In addition, he is an associate professor and chairman of orthopedic surgery for Jackson Health System, surgery chairman while practicing in St. Thomas Virgin Islands, along with many other professional distinctions and accomplishments throughout his career.

In addition to being an accomplished surgeon and physician, he is a member of multiple associations which include: Florida Medical Association, American College of Surgeons, National Medical Association, Florida Orthopedic Society, American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, and United States Army Reserve.

His academic appointments include the University of Connecticut Medical Center in Farmington, CT., and V.A. Hospital of the University of Connecticut in Newington, CT. Dr. Henrys is a published author that includes written work on topics such as cervical spine injuries in children, degenerative osteoarthrosis of the knee, and lumbar stenosis.

Dr. Henrys has a deep appreciation in community service and the giving of his skills in times of crisis. He has spent time in Dominican Republic, Peru, and most recently visited Haiti to offer surgical services to residents following their devastating earthquake.
