Northern Maine Medical Center recently received recognition for the contributions the organization put forth toward the immunization of citizens in the St. John Valley.
Director of the Maine Center for Disease Control Dora Anne Mills noted that NMMC was a partner under uncertain circumstances, accomplished great strides in saving the lives of many Maine children and adults. She explained, “Although the impact of this primarily pediatric and young adult pandemic was severe for a number of people, Maine was extremely fortunate to have experienced one of the mildest disease surges and to help lead the nation in its vaccine efforts in all age categories.”
NMMC took action very early in the crisis to be proactive and vigilant with the access of vaccinations to residents, especially high risk individuals. The concern of cross-border pandemic spread for the St. John Valley was also of heightened concern that led to an aggressive vaccination plan. 1796 doses of H1N1 vaccines were distributed to higher risk individuals.
