Joey began his career at NMMC in 2019 as a Registered Nurse, working both the adult and child psychiatric units.
Early on in his career, he discovered his passion for mental health and wellness, inspiring him to pursue advanced education to become a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Since July 2023, he has been practicing in oupatient psychiatry. Joey's commitment to breaking down barriers to mental healthcare in rural communities is a driving force behind his success in his field and his community.
During his studies, he developed a deep interest in sleep-wake disorders, which sparked his curiosity about how these conditions impact overall mental well-being. At the same time, Joey became increasingly fascinated with bipolar disorder and psychotic disorders, recognizing their profound effects on individuals and their families. His interest in these areas has driven him to explore new and innovative ways to improve care.
More recently, Joey has been focused on the potential of genetic testing as a tool to enhance the treatment and management of various mental health conditions, aiming to personalize treatment approaches for better outcomes. His work continues to evolve as he seeks to bridge the gap between cutting-edge research and practical solutions in mental health.
