Our Area

Fort Kent, Madawaska, and the St. John Valley are home to some of the finest outdoor activities in the state and possibly the country. Snowshoeing, Cross Country and Down Hill Skiing, and Snowmobiling on thousands of miles of pristine trail systems make up a list of some of the activities available during the Winter months. In Spring, Summer, and Fall you can enjoy hiking, biking, camping, and spending time on the many lakes and rivers canoeing, boating, and swimming. During the Summer, nearly every mile of snowmobile trail is converted into beautiful ATV, walking, and biking trails, expanding your outdoor activities to 12 full months. Even the renowned Allagash Wilderness is only 20 minutes away for you to enjoy and explore.

Fort Kent and the surrounding areas offer several auto dealerships, historical sites, a large variety of restaurants with options for local, domestic, and international cuisine, beauty salons, and barber shops, and across the border in the City of Edmundston you can shop at big name box stores, dine at Canadian restaurants of your choice and visit casinos and lounges. There is also a sports complex with an indoor pool, a rock climbing wall, and a multi-sport pavilion. For the growing family, you can begin in Pre-K at the Fort Kent Elementary School, move on to the Fort Kent Community High School, and finish your college degree at the University of Maine at Fort Kent, all within a half mile, on the aptly named Pleasant Street.

While these highlights are only a piece of what NMMC and our area have to offer, community spirit and local culture are what keep people here and keep people coming back. The strong Acadian heritage and culture in the area go hand in hand with our mission of caring and helping others, which is evident in everyone you will meet.
