Northern Maine Medical Center Named to Forbes’ First-Ever Top Hospitals List for 2026

Northern Maine Medical Center (NMMC) is proud to announce it has been named to Forbes’ inaugural Top Hospitals list for 2026, a national recognition that places NMMC among the top-performing hospitals in the United States for quality, outcomes, and patient experience.

Forbes developed its first-ever Top Hospitals rating system in collaboration with healthcare measurement experts, including an advisory panel of clinicians, scientists, health policy researchers, and patient advocates. The rankings were calculated using validated and vetted data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Provider Data Catalog (PDC).

Approximately 5,400 general acute care hospitals across the United States were eligible for consideration. Of those, about 2,500 hospitals met the inclusion criteria, and only 762 hospitals nationwide earned a 4- or 5-star rating. These hospitals comprise Forbes’ first-ever Top Hospitals list.

Central to the Forbes methodology is its emphasis on clinical patient outcomes, including mortality, survival, infection rates, and hospital readmissions, which were given the greatest weight in determining each hospital’s overall rating.

“This recognition by Forbes is an extraordinary honor and a direct reflection of the dedication, skill, and compassion demonstrated every day by our physicians, nurses, and staff,” said Jeff Zewe, President and CEO of Northern Maine Medical Center. “Providing high-quality care in a rural setting comes with unique challenges, and this acknowledgment affirms that our team continues to meet—and exceed—national standards while delivering exceptional care close to home.”

Northern Maine Medical Center’s inclusion on the Forbes Top Hospitals list underscores its ongoing commitment to patient-centered care, clinical excellence, and continuous improvement for the communities it serves.
